What can I say other than I just like poking fun at the mainstream news media. I know they’ve never been the paragon of impartial, objective of journalism they make themselves out to be; money, political interests, and sensationalism have always been present to some degree. And for many papers, magazines, and programs, building narratives with the aim of telling the public WHAT to think has often been part of what they do. But at least there was some value and good information mixed in with the propaganda, and some outlets exercised some independence from the government. Yet today most of the mainstream media is an utter embarrassment, with too much emphasis on pundits & commentators, real investigative journalism being largely abandoned, and constantly peddling outrage and fear. At this point, most of the value I find in watching the news is to finding what the narrative they’re trying to sell me on. It’s a critically important and potentially noble profession which will eventually find its legs again, but until then I won’t hesitate to needle them mercilessly…
